Brooklyn Fashion Week Spring 2009

October 6, 2008 by WhatsWear

This past weekend, an array of talented designers collaborated to showcase their Spring 2009 collections at Brooklyn Fashion Week. The level of ingenuity portrayed in each show was very inspirational and left audience members wanting more.

The menswear portion of the weekend included popular labels, Peacocky and Alador & Smith. The brands have an urban-chic approach with pieces including, embroidered sweatshirts, jeans and above all, a large collection of vibrant graphic tees.

Two women’s lines to look out for are, Joan Vaccianna and Maria Malhmann. Both collections are  trendy and generally appeal to a younger group of women. Vaccianna has a knack to vamp up the basics and make them her own. Think items such as, tailored blazers, ruffled organza blouses, and skinny jeans with a twist. Malhmann has constructed whimsical dresses that are produced on a no budget level. The clothing is so full of life and character, I can only hope to see more from this designer in the future.

Brooklyn Fashion Week was a great success this season. Along with fellow New Yorkers, I am eager to see what’s in store for the Fall.
