I know the fashion industry seems to be dominated mostly by men. But maybe the new Ellen von Unwerth book Fraulein proves that a woman can connect with another woman on a different level. As a model herself in the fashion industry for ten years, Ellen knows what it’s like in the biz and what goes on behind the scenes. The bold and candid images in her new book showcase fetishism, nudes, romance and the freedom of being a sexually aware, free and desirable woman.
While still keeping the imagery artistic and playful, Unwerth has captured the likes of Kate Moss, Dita von Teese, Eva Mendes, Natalie Portman, Lindsay Lohan, Vanessa Paradis, Adriana Lima and Britney Spears to name a few. Gracefully alternating from color images to black and white, the book’s photographs of female icons will have your full attention. The women in the images are enchanting; you cannot help but gaze at them. Fantasy and effortless freewill pour out from the pages of her new book. Ellen von Unwerth has an invitation to this whimsical world that’s actually living and breathing. She has captured the rare happenings and presents them to her viewers in beautiful form.
I wondered what the name of her book meant. Luckily for me my father is fluent in German. Fraulein is a term of endearment meant for young women. I think the title is just right. Fraulein will be a much-coveted book this year that will keep you enthralled. With a limited edition of 1500 copies that are numbered and signed by Ellen herself, the book will be available just in time for the holidays from Taschen. Be sure to pick up a copy for the ones that are most deserving on your list.
