One of the beauties of Manhattan is that most things are available at your fingertips. I saw just that when I had the pleasure of being introduced to a store named, Clearly First. It was here where I discovered authentic pieces that were exclusively chosen from Scandinavia.

Clearly First, opened in 2001 by entrepreneur, Helene Carendi. The name of the store was based off the fact that clearly, this was the first store in Manhattan to carry unique items from Scandinavia. Helene has been successfully running her business overseas whilst traveling throughout Scandinavia in search of exceptional pieces to be carried in the store.

The variety of inventory is outstanding. Whether a shopper is buying for themselves or others, Clearly First has you covered. The store carries tiny trinkets, furniture, artwork, and an extensive collection of women’s and men’s fashion. Among my favorites were the tiny wooden birds that are hand-carved by renowned architect Kristian Vedel. I also fell in love with a newly added line called, Bruuns Bazaar. This Danish fashion line creates pieces that thrive upon modernity and simplicity that cater to both men and women.
Helene has done an exceptional job building Clearly First from once only being ideal for home furnishings to expanding into a Mecca for fashion designers and artists. The tremendous amount of thought and love put into the store is going to keep Clearly First thriving and expanding in years to come.

The Spring 2009 women’s wear collections consist of sheer fabrics, ruffles, and peasant blouses, loose fitting flowery prints and high wasted pants/shorts. As models worked the runway it was apparent that a streak of the late 80’s power-dressing era has influenced many designers. Thus it comes of no surprise that the blazer has made a comeback but with a few minor adjustments (like getting rid of shoulder pads that would make you look like the Bears line backer Brian Urlacher). The blazer has evolved from the plain box cut to a fitted and flattering shape.

There are three looks that designers such as Alexander Wang, Rag & Bone and Elizabeth and James successfully executed- the oversized blazer, the fitted cropped blazer and the elongated blazer. This season pairing an oversized blazer with high wasted pants and simple tee is one of the simplest ways of keeping up the fashion Joneses.

Whether you pick up your blazer and throw it over a loose floral dress to spruce it up to hippie chic or roll up the sleeves to give that little black dress a bit more of casual ease, the verdicts in and the blazers here to stay. Here are a few blazers to keep in mind.

All that sparkles dances in making us feel effervescent, alive in the steps we take.

Sequin purses that sway with no care off-our shoulders and necklaces which throw off fireworks-setting our necklines on fire from the sexiness; and what better time of year if not Christmas for things that perform brilliantly decorating our Christmas trees, homes and our bodies, if you will.

If that wasn’t enough what better way to reflect all of our physical points of light, if not by wearing such beautiful things of delight.

Feast your pretty eyes on Naheem Kahn’s fall 2008 black feather-sequin gown, Alexander McQueen’s Jet crystal boot, Dolce and Gabbana’s two-tone sequin Charles bag, Lanvin’s chain necklace with large crystals and Miu Miu’s python platform sandals with crystal details.

Oh why must we endure such lively animated loveliness…,but do not fret my obsessed fashionistas because we only love the sweet torture of wanting what we don’t have.

In these times of hard knocks, where our purses and wallets are holding onto us real tight. One can only dream of the reflecting sparks of light; and if should you see any of these treats pass you by from time to time, Keep your chin up in style.

Every year, six prestigious artists join forces with six veteran perfumers in concocting a limited edition of six fragrances, in helping raise awareness and funds for the DAA, which stands for Designers against aids. DAA is a non-profit organization founded in 2004, whose sole mission has been to raise AIDS awareness in the youths of industrialized countries in addition to international media and the public. In conjunction with the DAA is the International HIV Aids Education Center (IHAEC) which will be providing workshops with artists From the DAA network and others supporters involved in educating the masses in Aids awareness.

The ‘Six Scents’ perfumes will be sold worldwide, also online; Seven New York, Reborn Montreal, Colette Paris, Lala Berlin, Park Vienna, JUS Stockholm, Henrik Vibskov Copenhagen/Oslo, Day & Night St Petersburg, Doshaburi Barcelona, RA Antwerp, Joyce Hong Kong/Kowloon, Daily Projects Seoul, Assin Melbourne and Woodley and Bunny’s Apothecary and Salon.
Six Scents Series One was curated by Seven New York which paved the way to these designers in providing direction in media exposure and special event/projection production. There are only 2,000 units available per designer fragrance, which is individually numbered and uniquely packaged. A percentage of the net proceeds will go to the DAA and the IHAEC in Antwerp, Belgium soon to open in December of this year.

The ringleader in brand/marketing and supplying Six Scents was Symrise who stands by “the appeal of their products and technology,” the “indispensable measure of their service” and their “bold unmistakable way of doing things.” Metaproject is a New York based creative consultancy supported by marketing strategists and a conglomerate of designers, curators, writers, architects and scholars responsible for producing exhibitions and art projects. “What moves those of genius, what inspires their work is not new ideas, but their obsession with the idea that what has already been said still isn’t enough”-Eugene Delacroix

I pampered myself to guilty fragrance pleasure in testing all six sexy scents and I think one for each day of the week suits me well. I like the transformational body scent diversity from day to day, scent to scent and they not only take me to greener, softer, sensuous pastures of a more sublime sense of smell, but my skin felt refreshed wearing it, if that’s not too intangible to express. It is a heightened psychology of consumerism to me- ’cause it’s something new, unique, with of a humanitarian cause behind it. And it goes without saying that in life you must think big in achieving greatness, in changing people’s minds, saving lives and instigating forward thinking for bettering ourselves and the world we live in.

We want more than brand names, we want to feel resolved about ourselves as individuals who, in feeling resolved in these hard economical times, are attributing to others’ well being. So make a difference as one, a fashionably-progressive-valued change with a consciousness and get your six bottles,’cause one may not be enough to save enough lives or open someones mind.Use No. 1 for Monday, No. 2 for Tuesday, No. 3 for Wednesday, No. 4 for Thursday, No. 5 for Friday, No. 6 for Saturday and on Sunday reflect and feel dignified in knowing you’re helping increase HIV/AIDS awareness in educating the misinformed youths of today’s world.
