In Season: Mackage Jackets

Mackage has quickly risen to the top of the fashion food chain as the go-to brand for men and women’s outerwear. They captivated their customers with flattering classic styles and finally introduced quality coats at reasonable prices to major department stores across the country. My first Mackage purchase was a black fitted wool jacket that has become my wintertime staple. With an over-sized collar and silk lining it was both warm and fashionable. It could even make sweatpants look good! Mackage has continued to create classic shapes with unique accents for this fall and winter (think puffy sleeves, over-sized collars and touches of leather). In addition to their website, you can see some of Mackage’s creations in our Le Rêve de la Marionette photo editorial. To get a better idea of who Mackage is and where they are going we sat down with Elisa Dahan, one part of the designer duo behind Mackage’s creations. After partnering with childhood friend Eran Elfassy, they made their dreams a reality and finally introduced luxury outerwear for all price ranges! Read on to learn more!

WW: What are the top five cold-weather pieces every girl (or guy) should have in his/her closet this season?

Elisa Dahan: A 3/4 length wool coat for evening is a must-have for every woman.  Mackage wool coats are accented with leather belts and novelty buttons to update the chic, classic, style. Lace is [also] a huge trend on the fall runways that we incorporate into the Mackage collection by bonding lace to wool. The Eden style is a great way to wear the lace trend in outerwear.

Leather jackets have been in style for decades! We have updated our leather jackets with exposed zippers, fur accents and collar treatments. We have developed a raincoat for men and women called the Packable.  The Mackage Packables (pictured below) have the styling of leather bombers and fold up into a portable pouch; chic and functional. For bitter cold days, everyone needs a puffy.  The Mackage puffys for men and women are tailored to fit against, not away from, the body to create a flattering silhouette.

WW: What is your favorite piece from the Fall/Winter 2009 collection?

Elisa Dahan: The Mackage Julia is my favorite because it is a classic shape with luxe elements such as the Italian wool and cashmere blend fabrication and leather detailing.

WW: What outerwear trends are you seeing for this fall and winter?

Elisa Dahan: We’re seeing lots of textured fabrics, defined shoulders and wide collars this season, and all may be found in Mackage styles.

WW: What is it like to work with your childhood friend? Is it hard at times?

Elisa Dahan: We love what we do and we’re constantly challenging one another; we wouldn’t have it any other way.

WW: What made you gravitate towards outerwear? Do you see Mackage expanding to create other types of clothing (pants, tops, shoes etc)?

Elisa Dahan: We began designing leather jackets after seeing a gap in the market.  Everything available at the time was either very missy or commercial.  From there, we grew the collection to include multiple fabrications as we saw that the outerwear market as a whole was lacking the style and sophistication we craved. We have some very big plans in the works for Fall 2010 collection. Stay tuned!

WW: What are you working on for Spring/Summer 2010?

Elisa Dahan: We are introducing men’s rainwear, a beautiful new stretch fabric for our women’s trenches, as well as a brighter color story overall.

WW: How would you describe your personal style?

Elisa Dahan: Our own styles reflects that of our Mackage customers; edgy and sexy but still chic and sophisticated.

WW: What is the most memorable piece of clothing you have worn and/or created?

Elisa Dahan: We always strive to push the envelope and elevate outerwear to a new level.  Keep watching; I think the best is yet to come!
