Indochine, 25 Years On The Scene & Still Looking Fresh

Getting my name placed on the list for Indochine’s 25 year anniversary bash seemed more difficult than getting invited to Camp David. Blockaded by a half a dozen French women and one guy who sounded like he was from Oklahoma, I listened to them rehearse their “intro” speech for the door person (they didn’t know I spoke French). I made my way to the front of the line and checked in. Thanks to one of Nadine Johnson’s little darlings, I was able to by pass the secret service and hit the red carpet (I wonder if she can sort out the Boom Boom Room for me?). If there is one place that personifies a downtown crowd, it’s Indochine (we love their sister restaurants Bond Street, Kittichai and Republic as well).
Liev Schrieber, Naomi Watts and Lily Donaldson were amongst the attendees all dressed to the nines. Others were in costumes supporting the party’s 1920’s opium den/ cabaret theme. I managed to sport an Alfred Dunhill suit as I tried to blend in with the faux social aristocrats. Surrounded by Chinese Dragons, paparazzi, dudes in drag, women in sexy costumes revealing everything but their nipples (is that legal? Not a bad look) and a ton of Friday night drunkards drowning in Skyy Vodka, I felt right at home. It was difficult to maneuver since everyone wanted to be upstairs in what became the unofficial VIP area.
I managed to snap a few photos and mingle with some more “glamorama” infused guests who all had stories about life, art and what Indochine meant to them (whilst they refueled their champagne glasses). Finally, the night ended with short walk home and a long hangover the next day.
