Meeting Marsha Welcher, designer for THAYER, I was both excited and surprised. Marsha, a young woman with a high artistic talent, has a rare vision in fashion and design. Marsha got started designing for friends, but it was only a short time before her fashion insight became in high demand. Thus, she created her own line, THAYER. The history behind THAYER is fascinating especially as Marsha energetically relayed to me the history behind her clothing line and let me in on its future.
I first discovered THAYER while shopping in my favorite boutique, Kriti, in Greenwich CT. The dresses, tops, and pants were really versatile, belonging to that type of simplistic clothing that can be accessorized in a many ways to reveal your own personal style. Often described as electric, hip and whimsical, THAYER is the perfect line for the everyday women.
Marsha, who graduated from Fashion Institute of Technology, has been working in the industry for the past decade. Having had internships at Valentino, Marc Jacobs, Harper’s Bazaar and W magazine, she began her career as an accessories editor at Lucky Magazine. While working for Neiman Marcus and Michael Kors as fashion stylist, Marsha began to envision the need for easy, vibrant designs that can be easily styled by the everyday women.
I immediately knew that I had to use her Holiday 2010 line in our Here Comes The Sun Shoot. The versatility of the line was a stylist’s dream for a photo shoot; I couldn’t help but pull nearly the entire 2010 Holiday line.
This holiday collection has a piece for every occasion. Using mostly dark colors and metallics, Marsha plays on textures and patterns to add that artistic element. Dresses are lined with perfect lace cutouts, allowing for a sexy display of skin through black lace. There are also off-the-shoulder dresses and plunging necklines that seem to elongate the neck without revealing too much. A favorite piece of mine were her velvet leggings with a hint of shimmer, making them the perfect complement for a sexy top and heels and an over-sized sweater.

Marsha’s, unique style and positive energy truly shines through her clothes. THAYER is an a line that every woman should include into her wardrobe, as each piece illuminates versatility, excitement and sophistication. The clothing line is also well priced, ranging from $100 to $300. THAYER can be purchased at Shopbop.com, Barneys, and Harvey Nichols.
