Ah Mackage, how do I love thee, let me count the ways. Ever since Court Williams of WWD graced the front rows of New York Fashion Week last February in a flawless Mackage coat, the more competitive male fashion editors – myself included – have been obsessed with the brand. Simply put, no one does outerwear better than a brand born in a city with long winters. Unlike its American counterparts, Mackage consistently delivers lightweight, warm, and supremely stylish outerwear. The presentation, hosted in the brand’s Meatpacking District pop-up store, boasted some great new directions for the brand.
The ultra-lightweight nylon “packables” come in new colors for spring 2010, like a rich purple for women and a bright race car red. The leathers this season feature ribbed trims, perforated leather sections and motorcycle and motocross inspired details like industrial stength zippers and extra long gauntlet zippers on the top of the forearm.
In addition to the staple colors of black and pewter, the leathers now come in a delicious cognac that has all the European flair of a weekend jaunt to Florence. The classic pea coat is updated with a double epaulet and is sure to become a staple of your wardrobe regardless of the season.
Grab the perfect pair of vintage or re-issued Carreras and you’ll be ready to race around town in style!
