I first got a look at Aleksandra Martynyuk from Q models when she was featured in a shoot for Zink Magazine.  I couldn’t keep my eyes off of her.   Aleksandra’s porcelain skin pairs perfectly with her strong bone structure.  She’s the type of model who can fit any concept that’s created around her.  Plus, who doesn’t love a gorgeous red head?!  I was able to interview her about life as a model.  Hopefully I’ll be able to shoot with her as well!

KW:  When you first started modeling, tell me, what were some of your test shoots like that you can remember?

AM:  I started at 16, and I remember very well my first shoot.  My agency sent me to a casting and I didn’t have any photos. I didn’t know what to do on a casting. Clients took some snap shoots of me and I got this shooting job. The shoot was for a Russian magazine.  We shot in the forest.  And the most amazing feelings I had was when the magazine came out and I saw myself on the cover. I just couldn’t believe that it was me. It was unbelievable.

KW:  I remember first seeing you in an editorial shot by of my favorite photographers, Jamie Nelson, featured in Zink.  What was it like seeing it for the first time?

AM:  I was very excited about the story, but unfortunately I was not in USA when Zink came out.  So I asked my friends to buy it for me.  Then when I saw it, I was proud of myself.  It really looked great!

KW:  What encouraged you to really jump into this industry?

AM:  To try something new and see the world.  To experience different cultures and meet new people every time.

KW:  How were you discovered?

AM:  I was discovered by the Russian agency Modus Vivendis. They literally just picked me on the street and asked come to the agency and I went.

KW:  If you weren’t a model, what would you be doing?

AM:  I would be a dancer or a doctor.  I like medicine a lot.

KW:  What’s the most annoying thing clients tell you?

AM:  “You are from Russia, you cannot get cold”.

KW:  Haha, that’s pretty funny.  Any runway walking tips you can share with us?

AM:  Look straight ahead and don’t shake your hands.  Move your hips from side to side and do not cross your legs too much.

KW:  What has been your most favorite shoot so far and why?

AM:  My favorite shoot was for ELLE magazine. Why?  Because we were being shot at Time’s Square and I liked to see people’s reaction. It very touristy place and it was funny how all the people stopped to take pictures of us. It was nice to bring something new to people who’ve never seen anything like that.  I love to have shoots outside on location, rather than in studios.

KW:  What would your dream photo shoot be?  What would the concept be?

AM:  I have two ideas for this question.  A photo shoot under the water would be my first choice.  I’d be dressed in anything; dresses, swimsuits, maybe even naked.  My second choice would be a shoot with me in Pointe shoes. It can be very simple and classy or wild with crazy movements.

KW:  What’s your must-have fall fashion piece that you can’t live without?

AM:  My white cashmere sweater!  It’s so warm and cozy, plus it looks cool.

KW:  What’s the best piece of advice for potential models?

AM:  Believe in yourself and what you’re doing.  Know what you want.

KW:  Thank you so much for your time and insight on your life as a model.  Would love to work with you sometime soon!
