As the holidays approach, all I can think about is sequins. Normally, I am not a fan of such heavily adorned pieces but something about Christmas and New Year’s changes my style mindset. I am sure New Year’s Eve outfits account for a good percentage of sequined pieces sold throughout the country (don’t quote me on this though). And this year, I was determined to find a sequined mini skirt to host my New Year’s party in. I looked at dozens of sparkly skirts, but nothing compared to Theory’s Rickena Sequin Mini Skirt. This skirt probably weights about five pounds, but it is all worth it–note that it also feels heavier in your hand than it does on your body. All-sequin pieces can go very wrong very fast and look cheap despite their high price tags. However, this mini skirt looks more expensive than its price tag of $495. The metal sequins fall in faded tiers and the actual style of the skirt lies close to the body without being skintight. I plan to wear this piece exactly as shown with opaque black tights, sky-high black heels and a simple loose white tank. Other than a large cocktail ring and some bangles, this skirt needs minimal accessories. You can even make it more casual with a pair of flats and a black blazer or leather jacket. Find this piece at any major department store near you.
