My Favorite “It” Thing: Dolce and Gabbana Military Jacket

If you haven’t noticed, Sergeant Pepper-inspired military jackets have been flooding the coat racks this season in both the men’s and women’s sections of every clothing retailer. From American Eagle and H&M to the floors of Barney’s, this type of statement outerwear is definitely an increasing trend. And nobody, and I mean nobody, does trendy like Dolce and Gabbana. There is no doubt that their military-style jacket is going to get you noticed, but if you are in any situation like myself, it is also going to leave you broke with its price tag of over $1000. So, with that being said, here is where I reveal my secret, and maybe lose a little respect in the fashion world.

My favorite version of this D&G jacket came from a thrift store in the Midwest, in two parts. For less than $10, I bought a vintage U.S. military jacket and a boy scout uniform. After sowing the patches and other accessories from the uniform onto the jacket, it created a look very similar to the Dolce and Gabbana piece I loved so much. Now, in my head, I know the difference, and my bargain find will never quite amount to the concept of my idols. However, when I wear my jacket and someone gives me a compliment, it almost makes me forget the difference.
