My Favorite “It” Thing: Studs

Studs, found at any arts and craft store, are the perfect accent to spice up any article of clothing, adding an expression of your own style. Studs first came on the scene in the late 80’s/early 90’s with the birth of grunge. They added a hard rock-n-roll edge to jean jackets, shoes, belts, and pants. These inexpensive metallic embellishments are fun to use and can be worked into any design to showcase your personal style.

There is a huge variety of different studs that can be purchased. You can choose from rounded, cone, flat, spiked, skulls, squares, and stars, in all sorts of colors. My favorite application for studs is on boots, t-shirts, jeans and jean jackets. The best way to apply them is to follow a seam or a pattern you’ve already laid out. For example, on a jean jacket you can fill in the top of a pocket or the patch above or below the shoulders or even cover the cuff of the sleeves. The same thing can be done on a t-shirt. The collar is always a great place to add these embellishments. Studs look best on shoes when following the seam of the boot or the top hem.

When adding studs remember “less is more.” Don’t get crazy, just add the perfect accent. For us ladies, I also like to add studs on the straps of a black lace bra worn under a semi shear top. The perfect hidden accent!
You can purchase studs at any arts and crafts store, but this site is also a great place to order them online. Studs are very in right now.

Cool! I recently bought 2 pairs of black shoes to stud! I’m doing it now and I’ll post pics of before n after. One pair is a sexy black platform suede-like hi-heel, the other is a hi-heel platform bootie with cutouts n 3 buckle straps.
I plan to be done with at least the heels tonight or by tomorrow. I have the dome studs and started laying out a pattern with these little circle stickers first. I bought my studs at Tandy Leather store, Michaels didn’t carry enough studs in one pack. Great price! The shoes only cost $10 each at Ross and the studs $9 for 200! Wish me luck!
I’d love to see the finished product Dee! Good luck.
