Most denim lines fail to find their inspiration in international conflict. However, 4 Stroke, a budding new denim brand, strives to make their designs a bit more shocking than the rest. Titled “Invision/Invasion,” the provocative Fall 2009 collection, for both men and women, was inspired by Josef Koudelka’s book “Invasion 68: Prague,” which details the day the Soviet army violently invaded Czechoslovakia. Jean styles reflect the “spirit of the resistance of Czech protesters towards the Russian invasion of Prague” while also making sure to add in “4 Stroke’s New York City appeal.”
So what does this all really mean?
The result of this unexpected inspiration provides customers and jean lovers everywhere with the “work-wear trouser for men and women; keeping washes smokey and dirty on blacktopped green selvage denim.” All pieces are created out of the softer-than-soft pima cotton and have a hint of formal grunge to them. In addition to the more neutral styles, pops of color will also appear among the collection in deep purple and bright raspberry hues. We suggest you swap out your boyfriend jeans with work-wear trousers.
4 Stroke is more than just a denim line. With aspirations to call themselves a couture brand, they are introducing a variety of pieces to create a full denim line consisting of more than just jeans. For men, we can be prepared to see workmen-inspired denim button-downs and heavier fall coats with military-inspired accents. Women can expect pieces that include a “pillow case dress”and a denim cloak that can be worn two ways (shown below).
The denim company bases their design roots on New York style and tries to encapsulate the city’s “unique lifestyle, edge and boldness.” We were very impressed by their light and colorful Spring 2009 collection and have high hopes for this season. 4 Stroke can be found in high-end department stores such as Henri Bendel, Fred Segal and the following locations.
