It is no surprise that denim is back for Spring/ Summer 2010. After it being such a hit this previous spring/summer, why not bring it back again with new twists. D&G was all about the denim this season in Milan. With a western vibe, denim covered bodysuits, overalls and boyfriend jeans (which are here to stay). It fell in tiers and flared out with fuller skirts. Another favorite who featured denim was John-Paul Gaultier. His denim overalls and denim dress stole the show when he presented in Paris. London got its denim fix from Twenty8Twelve who showed denim in a more hippie/boho-chic fashion. Light to medium-hued denim was the wash of choice as denim vests, jumpsuits, jeans and button downs strolled down the runway. However, Ralph Lauren was really the reigning denim king during NYC fashion week as he paraded old-school, patch-work denim pieces alongside overalls and retro-styled denim vests and jackets, all very depression-era chic. Best of all from the Ralph Lauren show was the soon-to-be “it” item for spring 2010, a pair of cropped, ripped and sequined gray denim jeans. Heaven on the runway.

As most of us know, denim is very versatile. It works as a neutral item and can be paired with almost anything to create formal or casual looks. Anyone can wear denim depending on the cut of the pieces. Fuller figures look slimmer when accentuated by more form-fitting cuts (as opposed to loose boyfriend jeans) and pear-shaped women can highlight their smaller upper halves with a cropped denim vest (this look is not for you busty girls!). Denim overalls are another thing all together. To pull of this look, one needs a whole lot of confidence and the right accessories and shirt to wear underneath to bring overalls from the farm to the city. Accessories are key when it comes to all-denim jumpsuits, as we need something to break up the monotony of the material. And gray cropped, ripped, sequined denim jeans, well, those look good on anyone.
