Exaggerated silhouettes starting with the shoulders are back in full effect! Seen on the runways all throughout New York, Paris, Milan and London, much attention has been paid to that area on a woman’s body. Stretching the proportions, embellishing, jeweling and crocheting are just a few ways designers this season have made them stand out.
In New York at the Charlotte Ronson show, one of my favorite outfits included both embellished breast pockets and shoulders on the first image below:
Along with some feminine sheer layers to offset the studding on top, Ronson had it carefully balanced.
In Paris, Karl Lagerfeld emphasized the shoulders. He made them ornate and delicate.
Todd Lynn in London had fun calling attention to the shoulders in his designs. Hair was found draping off of an an outfit! If you’re going to play up your shoulders, keep the bottom half of your body simple.
In Milan, Vukmirovic debuted his woman’s collection for Trussardi 1911. A beautiful yet playful collection, there were cutouts and fabric sections on shoulders. It was all brought together by keeping the designs tight and sleek on the bottom to keep the attention on top.
It seems like this trend isn’t going anywhere so quickly. It’s a fun way to breathe some fresh air into your wardrobe for Spring and Fall!
