PHOTO FAUX PAS FOR PARIS VOGUE?

Many in the fashion world are screaming quelle horror at the shocking and controversial photo spread in the current issue of Vogue Paris.  Fashion’s new model du jour Lara Stone appears in some of the season’s chicest couture, but what lots of people are talking about is what’s on her face.  This gorgeous white model is done up in blackface!  The 14-page editorial was shot by famed fashion photographer Steven Klein and styled by French Vogue’s editor-in-chief Carine Roitfeld.  Fashion forward or culturally insensitive?  You decide.

CONDE NAST CUTS BACK…AGAIN!

Pink –as in pink slips—seems to be the new color this season over at Conde Nast.  This week several editorial staffers at Glamour were told to pack up their desks.  This comes on the fashionable heels of cuts at W, Vanity Fair, and American V. The ailing economy strikes again.

GAULTIER’S NEW TARGET

Jean Paul Gaultier is gearing up to create a new line of fabulous frocks for Target. The haute courtier is the latest bold-faced designer name to create fashions for the discount retailer.  Anna Sui and Alexander McQueen did well with their Target collections.  Anya Hindmarch did a line of handbags.  And look for super high heels from Jimmy Choo at some insanely low prices at H&M next month.

THERE’S SMOKE IN YOUR EYES

Seventy-seven percent of American women prefer a smoky eye .  Let the smudging begin.

  1. Hi Ricardo, I’m very proud of you after reading this article ! Well done my dear. Very smooth & fluent and intresting for people like me who are not in touch with fashion like you are. With the links that you made, I can even learn more about the fashion’s actuality. Thank you for keeping me informed. Jean Luc from Antwerp, BELGIUM.

    Excelent!!

  3. Love the little fashion swatches! Vogue Paris should be ashamed. Have they no research department? Everyone know that blackface is offensive. If non-French designers stopped using French models based on the stereotype that they are malodorous, would they be so cavalier about using negative stereotypes? I’m just saying! Keep it coming Mr. Canales!

  4. George Fauntleroy says:

    Good article !!! very informative

  5. Carlton Whitmore says:

Yes I think it is offensive and VOGUE definitely wouldn’t have done that spread in this country. But on another note I couldn’t help recalling the Italian Vogue “all black model” issue, about a year ago. They didn’t do that in this country either. Makes you go mmmmm!
