When looking for a fashion-forward musician many tend to turn to Lady GaGa, who is comparable to Madonna with her influence on the fashion world. Yet, we must not overlook budding songstress and fashionista Mette Lindberg. She is a singer and front woman of The Asteroids Galaxy Tour, whose album Fruit got them on as the opening act for Amy Winehouse! Their big break opened new doors for The Asteroids Galaxy Tour as they were recently featured in an Ipod Touch commercial and their single “Around The Bend” was made famous in the film The September Issue. Currently, this musical group has a gig opening for yet another musically adept fashion icon, Katy Perry.
Fruit is a twist on the 60’s psychedelic/pop sound and presents a melodic hip-hop accent on the two genres. Mette Lindberg paired with producer and guitarist Lars Iversen to create a new sound that is catchy and fits perfectly with Mette’s high-pitched youthful voice. Often incorporating an entire horn section, the sound is a cross breed of musical genres from pop to hip-hop to psychedelic. In a recent interview, Mette explained the name Fruit by saying “fruit it’s not just one thing. It’s so many things. You can have a banana, but you can have grapes and they’re so different. It’s like describing all colours and shapes.”

Mette’s signature look is influential on her audience and fans. Like the message in her music, Mette prescribes that you have to “Let yourself free! Feel and enjoy life,” a quote that explains her style. She incorporates all fashion trends while always emphasizing the underlying tone of being free. Her hair has become iconic, platinum blond with straight-across-the-forehead bangs– all with an early 90’s grungy look. Her wardrobe encompasses metallics, sequins, fur, boho maxis, baby doll dresses, patterned leggings, sneakers and boots. It is a look that reflects the style of her fans (from the underground of Brooklyn) and styles familiar to her hometown roots in Copenhagen. A true mixture of cultures, style, and aesthetics.
