The Return of Costume Jewelry

August 15, 2008 by Stacy

Due to the recession that our society is currently faced with-although it seems to be swept under the rug- were seeing evidence of its impact starting with this falls collection.

The return of costume jewelry has come and maybe here to stay. In the early 1990’s people realized that the sparkle of a rhinestone could compete and outshine any precious gemstone not too mention they were cheap and affordable for the working class. During the roaring 20’s and into the Great Depression this knowledge inspired and was used to complete the flapper look by Channel when they first introduced costume jewelry. Well history often repeats itself and in our case it’s happening in more than one way today.

Designers such as Vera Wang, Burberry and YSL are creating high fashion peieces by combining metals and crystals to make a bold statement without the bold price tag, which should get a positive reaction from consumers considering the dive the economy is taking. So this season take a breather, give your wallet a rest and have no fear because as far as accessories are concerned fun and affordable is in!
