Today, it is all about going au natural. Gone are the days of heavily done eyes and foundation. Make up is no longer meant to cover skin, but complement it. Less is more and subtle is the way to go for spring/summer 2010. Instead of dramatic eyes, opt for just mascara and a highlighter in the corners of your eyes for a light and refreshed look. Swap out your foundation for a light bronzer. Heavy makeup will never stand up to the heat.

A notable example of this simple makeup trend could be seen on the Miu Miu runway at Paris Fashion week. Models were done up in natural make up, leaving little to the imagination. They even skipped the bronzer!

Another designer who left his models bare faced was John Galliano for the Dior show. Dior is always at the cutting edge of trends and Galliano showed us how to take simple makeup into the evening. Models walked down the runway with little make up on their face, allowing the full emphasis to be on the lips that were done up in bright red. The great thing about simple make up is it allows you to put emphasis on, or in this case plump up, a certain aspect of the face. Using this technique as seen on the Dior models will allow you to get the full-lip look sans plastic surgery.

Emilio Pucci also took the natural approach for the runway make up during Milan Fashion Week, allowing little distraction from the clothing. His models at least sported a little summer glow. Burberry sported the trend at London Fashion Week adding to their reputation of producing classic and tasteful looks. Finally Alexander Wang matched his sporty tomboy collection fittingly with bare faces. Because this trend is meant to promote natural beauty, it can be safely said that anyone can wear simple makeup– even if you have problem skin. Simply dab concealer under your foundation and seal in with a translucent powder. Less make up is not only good for skin, but it is also easy on your wallet these hard economic times.
