‘Tis the season to wear velvet!! Each year like clockwork the velvet trend returns to our boutiques and department stores in the form of jackets, blazers, dresses, shoes and accessories. Somehow the holidays are just not as jolly without at least one velvet piece, so get your shopping done early because we have found the hottest velvet pieces…all for under $250.

A velvet blazer is an easy addition over any outfit and looks especially adorable with jeans, a tee and heels.  We would either go short and cropped with Anthropologie’s Green With Envy Jacket or loose and long with something like TopShop’s Velvet Boyfriend Blazer. Either is an excellent choice.

For a more subtle way of wearing velvet, opt for a piece with velvet trimmings, like the Patterson J. Kincaid tank we found on shopbop.com, or a small velvet accessory such as J.Crew’s velvet flower pin or their velvet heels.

Brave fashionistas may prefer their velvet bright and bold. Alice + Olivia’s all-velvet leggings would look amazing with a fancy tunic top or even layered under a mini skirt.

Finally, for those formal occasions, nothing says holiday glam more than Jill Stuart’s short velvet mini. We found this dress at Bloomingdale’s and fell in love at first sight. A sexy v-neck, sequin bow and form-fitting design, we couldn’t ask for more.
